2015 Road Race Season Begins

The road racing season began in Ulster today with the Travers Engineering Annaclone Grand Prix promoted by Banbridge CC.

The A race for A1, 2, & 3s was held as a short handicap with the A3 group getting a 3 minute start over 20 A1 and A2 riders. A three man break left the A3 bunch after 3 of the 6 lap race.

Andrew Bye (Newry Wheelers) Niall O'Hagan (Ballymoney) and Matthew Brennan (Ballymena) were 1 minute 15 secondds ahead of the main bunch with 1 lap (8 miles) to go. Bye, who is an experienced triathlete forged on alone to win by over 2 minutes from the strong riding veteran O'Hagan, while Brennan was just caught with the finish line in sight by the charging bunch headed by James Curry (Banbridge CC) and North Downs Sean Carey and Mark Heeney (Carn Wheelers) battling it out for 4th and 5th respectively.
Curtis Gilmore (Team Madigan) was best of the scratch group in 8th place. The A4 race also had a lone winner in Christopher McGlinchey (Chain Reaction).
