Newry 3 Day 2014
Newry Wheelers promoted their popular 3 day stage race on the second weekend of August this year.
Over 80 riders took part in glorious sun shine conditions on Friday night and Saturday but on sunday they faced high wind and torrential rain.
Stage 1 was won by strong veteran Gavin Magowan from Dromara CC. Stage 2 was won in convincing style by David Mongomery (Unattached) while current Irish junior time trial champion Mark Down (Nicholas Roche Development Team) won the stage 3 timetrial in the afternoon. Des Woods of the promoting club made a late attack in the last 20k of stage 4 on Sunday. He was successful in winning the stage on his own but young Montgomery came home in the next group to hold on to his yellow jersey.
