Fifty Years at Annaclone

The road season started today with Banbridge CCs Annaclone Grand Prix sponsored by Travers Engineering. This was the 50th anniversary of the race and Banbridge CC men Gerry Beggs Denis Moreland and Peter Jackson who rode the first ever race were also helping out today.

The  'A' race for A1,2 and 3 riders had seventy seven starters and Sean McIntyre (Orchard Wheelers Shelborne Motors) was a solo winner after five laps of the hilly 8 mile course. Donegal Man Mark McClure (Four Masters) was second with with Thomas Martin (Caldwell Cycles Omagh) best of the scratch men in third place, Mark McAuley (M.A.D.) Dublin won the A4 race.

The Banbridge Club used the local GAA club for race HQ and this proved to be a success. It was another good promotion by the club and the new race orgainsiser Chris Burns.
