West Down Grand Prix

West Down Grand Prix

The West Down Wheelers held their West Down Grand Prix today in Katesbridge.

The riders enjoyed the fine weather after weeks of cold and wet conditions.

Almost two hundred cyclists competed in the three races held. Mark Downey (Nicholas Roche Development Team) from Dromore was a popular winner of the main A2/A3 race. He beat Craig Macauley (VO2 development) and David Hamilton (Curran Racing) in a sprint after 63 miles (6 laps) of the hilly circuit.

The A4 race ended in a bunch sprint won by Newry Wheelers man Daniel McConville, Janine McNally (North Down CC) won the ladies race while Michael Toland (Phoenix CC) won the over 50s event.

It was a great days racing brought to a close with West Downs's great after race hospitality for riders and supporters.
