Eoin Lennon (Olympia Triathlon club) won the Ballygalget G.A.C 10k road race for the second year in succession today.

Early leader Chris Speers (North Down A.C.) was runner up one minute behind Lennon who recorded 37 minutes 48 seconds for the hilly windswept course. Third was Tim Young (Midhurst Milers) in 40:05 with East Down runner Michael Cultra fourth (41:45). Special guest on the race was Ciara Mageean and the former European junior olympics 1500 metre champion used the event as training. She ran the last 5k at her tempo pace to come home in fifth (41:46). Ciara is returning to training after an injury stopped her competing since last summer.

This was the second year of the Ballygalget G.A.C.s 10k race and numbers were up on last year in the race and in the 5 km walk. Club chairman Conor Watson thanked all who took part from Athletic Clubs, Triathlon clubs unattached and locals. He hopes that the event continues to grow and thanked sponsors namely, Portaferry Credit Union, Podium for Sport, Centra Cloughey and Bargainland (Downpatrick). The Ballygalget secretary Declan Quigley, who took part also 48:35 18th, announced the results and prize winners while guest star Ciara Mageean presented the awards.

The weather was still very cold but at least it was dry and sunny. The challenging course which starts and finishes in Ballygalget shows the beautiful unspoilt landscape of the area.

The Ballygalget G.A.C.s first class hospitality and post event refreshments in their club house was an added bonus.
