Tommy Back In Sprinting Form

The John Haldane Memorial race was held on the carriageway course between Newry and Warrenpoint today. The first event to finish was the Ladies and over 50s. Jim Doyle from Foyle CC took the over 50s award. Clare Gillespie Ballymena CC was first lady. Second lady was Eve McCrystal Garda CC with Alison McMullan North Down third. This was a well deserved result for Alison who was involved in the bad crash at Saturdays race. Another rider to bounce back from Saturdays crash was Ian Blayney of North Down who was fourth in the over 50s.

Just behind Blayney and only failing to make the prizes was Cycling Ulster Chairman Tommy Lamb (Phoenix CC). Tommy was a former an Ulster Vet. Road Race Champion in 1996 and in recent years he  has made a come back. He was lost a vast amount of weight and today was looking the perfect size 'Lean, mean Sprinting Machine'.

Ciaran McVeigh Phoenix CC won the A4 race while Peter Kennedy East Antrim won the main race to take the John Haldane Memorial Trophy.

It definitely wasn't a 'good photo day'.

Photo shows Sprint Finish of over 50s and ladies. Tommy Lamb can be seen in the blue and green Phoenix kit on the left (The guy with his chin nearly touching the handlebars!).

All photos taken by me that appear on this site or social media will contain a watermark for child-protection reasons. The watermark makes it more difficult to download and maliciously doctor the photos, and enables the original photograph to be more easily traced.
