Blayney Wins Masters Race
The fastest club chairman in Irish Cycling, Ian Blayney, sprinted to a well deserved win in the masters road race at the Cicli Sport Grand Prix today.
It was a perfect finish to a well executed piece of team work by the North Down Club. They used all available weaponry - by John Hunter driving on the flat sections and Martyn Lyttle forcing the pace up the many hills on the Loup course to bring sprint King Blayney to the finish line in good shape.
Minutes later the North Down ladies took the top two places in the womens race as Janine McNally dominated from start to finish to win by several minutes with Louise Togneri sprinting to take second in the 50 kilometre race.
Weather conditions were cold but dry for the morning events but when the main senior racers took to the road it changed to showers of hail and rain.
East Tyrone promoted seven events in total today including under age races. Martin Lees and Peter Field were the commissaires.
