Wintry Conditions at Omagh

Wintry Conditions at Omagh

Riders faced bitterly cold conditions and snow showers at the McCann Cup races in Omagh.

The Over 50s race began at 11am closely followed by the Ladies. When these finished, separate races were held for the A4s, A3s and A1 & 2s.

I can only imagine how the riders felt considering I felt like I was about to freeze while going around the course taking photos. It was great entertainment watching from the sidelines. It takes some bravery to start a race in such cold wintry weather!

There was an exciting finish to the main A1-A2 race when the always-improving Gary Jeffers (East Tyrone) beat the experienced Connor Murphy (Eurocycles) in a two-man sprint. Having only started cycle racing last season, former motorbike racer Jeffers is definitely one to watch!

The women's event was won by North Down's Janine McNally with clubmate Alison McMullan edging second from Julie Rea (Phoenix).

All photos taken by me that appear on this site or social media will contain a watermark for child-protection reasons. The watermark makes it more difficult to download and maliciously doctor the photos, and enables the original photograph to be more easily traced.
